Here are three books I HIGHLY recommend taking the time to read this summer.
This classic book discusses how to create and implement a growth mindset. It contains lots of actionable takeaways for performers but it's greatest value lies in its discussion of how educators can develop growth mindsets in their students via how they present feedback.
This book discusses how we are often our own worst enemy when it comes to the process of achieving our goals. Wiest presents examples of various self-sabotaging behaviors and what you can do to confront and overcome them. This one "hits different." I listened to the audiobook version and encountered many moments where I had to pause to write down and digest what I had just heard. It's a good one to reread since there's quite a lot of insight packed within these pages.
I'm about a third of the way through this book and I'm really enjoying the discussion of not only why periods of highly focused work are important but also the various different ways to incorporate this "deep work" into different types of schedules. As a busy performer and educator I have found a lot of actionable takeaways in this book so far that allow any busy professional to incorporate "deep work" into their lives, particularly if they do not have the luxury to escape to an isolated cabin in the woods for weeks at a time.
